View Full Version : Opinions: I'm thinking of trading my SV650 for a GSXR750

Okay, so I have an 08 SV650 that I just bought in April. I've put a little over 2000 miles on it and have enjoyed every minute of it.

My hubby has an 08 hayabusa, and every week at bike night I see all of the other really cool sport bikes, and I've been kinda thinking that as much as I like the SV, I want to go to a true sport bike.

I've been checking them out, and the GSXR 750 really seems to feel good to me.

I am kinda lucky, as I always get AWESOME deals so the money isn't really an issue. I guess the dealers like to take care of me cuz where I work we do so many loans for them. :D (never hurts to have connections, right?)

So......any opinions? What do you think? The GSXR that I'm looking at is the orange/black. My current bike is in my avatar.

Wanna buy mine? I'm actually looking at a street triple or speed triple. My riding preferences have changed.

Not orange and black though.

DO IT. GSXR 750s are widely regarded as the best roadbike you can get (with a sporty angle). You won't look back.

I'm really leaning towards it. They had a leftover new 07 GSXR1000, and made a better deal on it, but the 750 just felt better to me. My hubby told me it was the original GSXR.....before they made the 600 or the 1000. I guess they made some upgrades in 08 too.

I'm going to ask them if I can test ride it.

Thanks for the feedback!

Test ride? Man I hope you can. Around here they don't prep them with oil and fluids until sold, Harley's are the only thing locally to test. Except maybe a used trade in sportbike.

Good Luck, I really think you will LOVE the bike

No offence intended, but unless you're at this height, a 1000 is way overkill. A 750 probably is too, but it just means you've got the best of both worlds if you wanna sit on a decent speed on a highway or whatever.

You just use 1st and 2nd on a 1000

I have an '07 gsxr750 and I love it. Great power and handling. Torquey-er than a 600, but probably nothing like what you are used to with your SV. The power is mostly in mid-range and top end. But for me, coming from a gsxr600, it feels really strong on the bottom.

Be aware though... there is an issue with *some* 06 & 07 750s, that has been dubbed the "Herky Jerky" throttle problem. There are quite a few threads on gixxer.com about it, with various fixes, mainly to do with TPS adjustment & voltage adjustment.

Mine did not start happening until the weather got really hot and I put a PCIII on it. I spent about 2 months pulling my hair out trying to figure out why, but it only seems to happen when the bike is warmed up and it's really hot out. But some people experience this issue with a stock bike.

If you get to test ride it, look for any abrupt throttle responses that don't jive with anything you are doing.

You might get one that doesn't have the problem, but if it comes up and you want more info, please let me know and I'll send you links to what I've learned so far.

I rode a friend's '06 gsxr1000 a while back, and I can't imagine why anyone needs that kind of power in a street bike. It was insanely fast. Sure it was a blast to ride, but there is really no need for it. Tires cost more, insurance is more, likelihood of giving in to temptation to do triple digits just because you can with a slight flick of your wrist... :blush2:

My 750 can do everything the 1000 can do (or that I would want to do), makes a better track bike and doesn't cost as much to keep.

The 750 came first in '85 (though not to this country the first year). Then they added the 1100, then later the 600. Then they stopped the 1100 and started making the 1000.

Suzuki is the only company still making a 750, which is pretty cool.

no offense taken at all. I preferred the feel of the 750. The 1000 was heavier and bulkier feeling. I'm sure I could ride it and get used to it, but the 750 was more comfortable for me. I'm 5'2" and not the biggest person around. (although I have picked up a few beer pounds this last year.)

yeah, I think it's cool that it's the only 750 available too.

oh yeah, there is an aprilia shiver that's a 750. It's not a true sport bike like the GSXR though.

The SV handles great, but the 750 is supposed to be the ultimate bike for handling and power.

The SV is comfortable, but without the fairing (i have the nekkid one too) sometimes the wind just kills me at higher speeds. The latest test I read about the new 750 is that the wind protection was improved too.

oh I wasnt knocking the SV's handling, but compared to the CBR's n GSXR's etc its not on par w/o alot of mods n aftermarket parts. :good:

I didn't take it that way at all.

Now my hubby wants me to just buy the GSXR outright and keep the SV too!

He thinks it would be cool for me to have 2 bikes that I could just choose from as far as which I would prefer to ride. I guess I just feel kinda guilty, ya know? They would both be brand new 08 models.

I have a windscreen for my nekkid SV that makes all the difference. But every time I rdie a more aggressive sportbike my wrist hurt almost immediately. In a perfect world, I'd have both. And since u can, why the heck wouldn't u? I wanna be you!!!

ANd my SV is heavily modded fo sho!

ANd my SV is heavily modded fo sho!Having both would be ideal. The more aggressive sportbikes you have to use your back/abs/legs more to hold yourself up than on less aggressive bikes. I have that issue n have carpel tunnel in both wrist, so I get reminded about everytyme I ride to watch my positioning etc. :drinks::sbgrox:

well, I made a deal! :clapping: :yahoo: I am getting it for $10,600 out the door. I also got their agreement that I can test ride it and if I like it they get the check. If I don't, then the check goes back into my account.

My hubby works til 3:00 pm today so I have a couple of hours to wait!

It rained hard this morning and is still threatening........so my test ride might be in danger! Jason at Ultimate Power Toys told me their insurance requires dry roads for test rides. Cross your fingers that the rain doesn't start again! If it doesn't then the roads should be fine by 3..........

I don't know! We won't be able to lower the gixxer by that time. I can ride it, but not sure I'd be real comfortable until it is lowered.....especially at the gap. Most likely I'll be on the SV. My hubby Mike will be on his busa or maybe I'll let him ride the gixxer. :D

Mike (my hubby) just called me.....he talked to a friend and it looks like his friend will go with me now with his enclosed trailer so I don't have to wait til 3:00.

My hubby said.....just BUY IT IF YOU WANT IT! I think I'll keep him.

That's what I thought to, but then a guy on SBN posted that he has an '08 gsxr600 with this problem. The difference being, he was able to convince Suzuki that there actually was a problem, and they replaced the TPS for him, which resolved his issue.

I'm going to try again with the dealer. Now that I know how to make it happen, I should be able to reproduce the problem for them.

Well.......I loved the SV, but the GSXR is SUCH a blast! I sold the SV a couple of weeks ago if that answers your question.

I finally let my hubby ride the gixxer yesterday. He went riding with some buddies and I wanted to stay home and watch the football game. Well, they went to the dragon. He came home and his words were: "I wanna throw rocks at my busa and buy a gsxr. And I want the 750, NOT the 1000!" :D

I think I might need to hide my key.............
