this is a free mod. all this does is STOP the fresh air feed into the exhaust system. US air pollution standards required this for noise and air pollution requirements. i say blah to those :D you WILL also have to either BLOCK or pinch off the pair system if/when you ever get a custom dyno tune. if not, your a/f ratio will be way offf and you will not be getting a properly tuned bike.
this is a DIY for the PAIR mod on a 2004 1000rr. the same basic principals apply to nearly all cbr's.
this wasnt too hard to do either.
pair mod:
1.remove the fuel drain tube and 2 front gas tank bolts
2.rotate the fuel tank back and support with a block of wood
3.remove the 6 phillips screws from the top of the airbox and disconnect the IAT sensor. now remove the top lid and remove the filters
4. disconnect all 4 injector connections and remove the 2 screws that hold down the harness. set outside of bike. unbolt the 6 bolts that held the injector rail to the airbox. they will have yellow paint on the tops. now lay the injector rail out of the way.
5. remove the other screws around the airbox. i think there were 7. now remove the middle section of the airbox.
6. remove the 6 screws around the velocity stacks, now remove the stacks. they can only go back on 1 way so dont wory if you got them mixed up. unscrew the 6 bolts around the airfilter holes (the screws are shiney/gold looking). remove the lower airbox. you will need to remove the 2 hoses from the lower airbox before totally removing it.
7. remove the 2 screws on the side of the air duct (accessable by the frame. remove the inner air duct.
8. using 1 vacuum plug (5/8" cap), put it over the nipple of the lower airbox. NOT!! the one that goes into the white oil seperator, the other one. use the same spring clamp over the vacuum cap you just installed.
9. locate the pair plates with the 2 grey hoses coming from it. remove both grey hoses. replace with a 5/8" vacuum cap over each one. using the spring clamps previously used, place them over the vacuum caps you just installed.
10. disconnect the wiring harness (2 wire connector) going to the pair solenoid. now remove the entire PAIR unit. you should be looking at 3 total hoses removed, and the solenoid in the center. this will also have the wire connector on it as well.
11. now do this in reverse order.
