DOT and SNELL? Which SNELL level?

DOT and SNELL? Which SNELL level?

You are kidding me right?Just because I didn't pay 600 bucks for my helmet doesn't mean its not safe. It's DOT and Snell Approved. You want pics of the back?

The FX-16 Skull Helmet meets or exceeds SNELL M2005, ECE 22.05 & DOT FMVSS-218 motorcycle safety standards

Someone's defensive.

Everything I've read about AFX said they were heavy and of low quality so I'm curious how it works out for you. Looked like the AFX lids weighed 5-8oz more than the HJC, Shoei, or Arai. They even weighed more than some of the dualsport lids with the sunvisors on. For the money the best deal on the planet is last years HJC CL-15 which is DOT and SNELL M2005, weighs less, and is half the price.... $69

webBikeWorld conclusion on the similar HJC CL-14:

"The CL-14 is a very good helmet for the price, with good to high levels of build quality and a very good liner."

webBikeWorld review of the AFX FX-11:

"From what I've seen, AFX still has a way to go to match, for example, HJC quality in my opinion."

All the $600 dollar helmet offer over the is lighter, quieter, and maybe more comfortable. Not that its safer in any shape, form, or fashion except the consumer 'thinks' it is because it cost more. They all have to meet the same standards to be on the market n labeled as DOT/SNELL approved. :drinks: :sbgrox:

This helmet is not heavy. It feels great to me. And it fits my little head perfectly.

I've read the same thing about the AFX helmets having a ways to go on quality issues - however, the newest review I could find was on the FX-11. It's possible they fixed those issues with the new "generation". I hope they did for your sake! :drinks:

It does look cool! :)

It's not a contest. You like it, you look great in it and it met the requirements so it's safe.

Now you're gonna look like :Hotstuff: at MSF this weekend baby!

Cute pic. Looks like it fits well, there's just a little cheek push, which is good. Can you open and close your jaw without catching any of your cheeks?

As long as there's a little pressure on the cheeks but not so much you bike them, the forehead is snug, but not tight, and you can strap it on and when you pull the chinbar around your head follows it without much (if any) movement inside the helmet (Meaning if I walked up to you wearing it and grabbed your chin and pulled it left, your head should move with it completely in that direction) the fit should be perfect.

I'm more concerned that it performs as good as it looks.

Like I said, I'm curious how it works out for you. I've got two helmets and they're about $1300 retail for the two of them. I ride with people who have crashed in them, though. I know they work. Got to see what an Arai Q2 looks like after a rider bodychecks a steel pole at 140 and nails it with his head first. Dude lived. One of my former coworker's has a son who headplanted into a chain link fence pole at about 50 and lived. Walking and riding within a couple months.

I know they work. I don't know if the AFX does, so I put my life on the line in a lid I know will perform. *shrug* Everyone has their own acceptable level of risk, I suppose. :drinks:

Win? There's no winning or losing when having an adult discussion. As long as you don't do the route others have and take thing and make things into something personal there's no reason there can't be a discussion. :)

Hell, all Arais are loud. Mainly has to do with the way the visor mounts and the side covers. IMHO having the side cover looks really good. Everyone should be wearing good earplugs for riding anyway.*

Speaking of which.... I need to do a writeup on mine.

First, I think that helmet is wicked looking, Love, and seems to fit well.

Second, there is a safety factor in different helmets, just go look at what the racers wear. For street riding, tho, I think most new full faces will do what you need them to do. Contrary to some people's opinions, you can survive a high speed impact with a top quality helmet, but there are some accidents that are just not survivable.

Third, I had an HJC and it was horrible, except that it vented better than my Shoei. The differences in weight, interior construction, venting, aero, all that can be very worth the extra $$. My Shoei is a bit noisier but my neck doesn't get fatigued wearing it, so for me that's a huge deal. My bf's Arai Profile is just amazing with it's venting and he loves it for racing (he's on his second after a crash) and it is just a bit lighter than my Shoei. Mostly he got it because Arai is the only one that makes a helmet specifically for his head shape (Profile has three).

Fourth, there is no winning or losing, Nathan (and I) just want to see you keep your cute little head, Love!

well mines almost unbearable w/o earplugs

but to me the high end helmets are just like high end anything else. They are nice if you can afford them, but not necessary if you cant afford em.

Far as what the racers wear, I know some wear KBC's, give AFX a lil time and I'm sure their lids will be there too.

Anyhow I like the AFX and want one myself. I'll buy a Shoei after my hostile takeover of M$ :aBigROLFMAO:

Sucky... Mine aren't that bad.

The other thing that is important is how stable the lid is in the airstream at speed. I LOVE my Arai. Smooth as silk when in a proper riding position at 100+mph and very stable when fully upright as well.
