Hey, my name is Emily!
My husband owns a busa and he wants to teach me to ride on this. I'm concerned b/c I'm a small girl 5'5 120 lbs and I don't think I could handle it. But he's "certain" that I'm capable. I know how to drive a standard good, but that's a car and a different story. I guess I want feedback from women w/their first time experience with riding.

Oh I really hate to get between a woman and her man!
But wow that is asking alot of you. I think you would find it hard to learn good control while trying to hold up that big of a bike.
I am your height and WAS your size when I started
I STRONGLY recommend you try your best to find something smaller to get the feel for it. Most will recommend you start on a 250. It's not a bad idea.
Personally I started on a 600 and have stayed with the 600.
Good luck and just tell the hubby you would prefer not to make your learning boo boo's on his machine. Tell him you'd like to get a beginner bike of your own that can take a scuff or two.

Thanks so much.
Also, I was wondering if there are any good websites besides e-bay and cycletrades.com that sell used bikes...
I really don't want to buy a 250 because I will probably want to get something with more power later on and would be a waste of money. Does anyone have any recommendations on beginner bikes besides the ninjas b/c aesthetically I don't like them...

Definitely on craiglist. Helps alot to find something close to home.
I completely understand not wanting to buy a bike you feel you will grow out of quickly but really you want something you can scuff up and not sweat it for the first bike. I dropped mine the first week, we have a gravel drive and that bit me right away
And Love has hit the mark the new Ninja is badass looking.
Of course I'm parital cause it looks just like my zx6r :haha:
Others I'm sure will be better about other makes. But there are some 500's out there.............comon peeps help us out with some other bike options.
(It gets a slow here at certain periods of the day when everyone is in transition from work to home)

No offense but he is &*%^*%() crazy if he attempts to teach you on a busa. :wtf: is he smoking???
What everyone else has suggested is a much smarter and has more likely chance of surviving the experience in one piece.
And get gear if hubby wears it or not.

Buy a used Ninja 250 on craigslist for $2k. Ride the piss out of it until you can push the MACHINE to IT'S LIMITS and then sell it for $2k and move up.

I've checked Craigslist a few times but I'm stationed at Fort Drum, NY and the weather here sucks(but I'm moving to UT at the end of July), and not a lot of people here have them for sell at all. There is a few dealerships but I don't want to buy a brand new bike.
I guess Paul(my husband) is a little crazed... he learned on a 1300 and so did his sister so he has high standards. idk.
but I'm certain that I'm not going to learn on his, though it is a beau

The '08 Ninja does look a lot better than the older models. Just not of my interest.

I agree with getting a used 250 n tellin hubby to stick learning on a busa up his.... well you know what. Because him n his sister were crazy enough to learn on a Busa doesnt mean you have too. A n00b on a busa is like playing russian roulette w/ 4 bullets in the camber.
And Nate, I dont think there is a single soul on this or any other board I am on that can push a 250 to its limits. :neener: :drinks:

He's crazy to try and learn you on that! I can ride one now but certainly not when I first started, it's a bid heavy bike....not that mine is much lighter.

Two words.
Hell.
No.
I *HIGHLY* do not advise anyone "learning" on a Hayabusa..... I'd really not advocate that it be done on anything larger than 700cc's....But to each their own.
One of the more capable bikes I think would interested you would be Suzuki's SV650. Great llil' bike to learn on, plus you can get lower farings for it (or take them off for the learning phase).... You can typically pick them up pretty easy in most areas and they're failry popular bikes.
Good luck, and get a MSF course under your belt.

I have to agree, thats a Hell of a machine to learn on... At least my zx-14 with flies in would be more of a trainer to learn on then a Busa.. that thing has grip from the go.. Sorry hun I don't recommend learning on that...:drinks:

I don't recommend it, but I have known people that learned to ride on one as well. The biggest problem, IMO, is their size. A bike is only as fast as you make it go. I saw this idiot that had no place riding a bike wheelie a 125 at my ABATE course during the throttle and balance control practice. I also wouldn't buy a 250 because I think you would outgrow it too quickly. My first bike was used and we took all the plastics off of it, that way I wouldn't worry about messing it up. Good luck with whatever you decide!

How do you outgrow a bike?
Reason I ask, when starting out, the main concern should be with learning to ride safely and correctly. Not with how good I look while I am riding or how fast I can go. And as I said earlier, I doubt very very very seriously any one of us on this board could push a 250 to its limits much less the bike we currently ride. CC size is all ego and has nada to do with enjoying the ride. :drink: :sbgrox:

I have to disagree with ya there PG.. I think that starting out on a 250 is fun at first, but most people wanna trade up to something bigger and faster.. My 6' frame on a 250 makes me look like a circus midget... And yeah a 250 would be great for a beginners bike, but you don't see many seasoned riders on them for a good reason.....:flame::monkeeshake:
PS.. My EGo say's go Fast and leave enjoying the ride to the slow cagers....

all ego my friend all ego. It WE WANT to go faster quicker. Not a one of us can out ride a 250, and prolly nowhere close to the limits of the bike we currently ride. Only exceptions would be the full blown trackwhores
I have seen plenty of ppl still riding the 250, simply because they say they have no need to go over a 100mph and they already can out accel 90% of the cars on the road.
I aint saying I dont got a ego, but mines in check, I will never outgrow my 600 and even tho its 8 years old, it will still outperform a busa ot 14 in the mtns
Notice I said IT could not me  :drinks:

TRUE TRUE... It all depends on the rider.. I wanna see take off times and go 0-??? as Fast as I can.. And while learning this is not good.. But for me the FASTER the Better... And you don't do much riding in the mountains on the 14, but it will scrape a fairing getting sideways on ya quick.... I live in Florida and we don't know what mountains are here.. So I will stick on those straightaways... 'Cause the wife say's sooo...:whip::aBigROLFMAO:

Like 2fast said, you outgrow and want something faster. I'm not saying I push the 14 to it's limits, but after I test rode it in FL, I knew I wanted it. I will admit I was better at cornering on the R6 I had before, but I had it longer and was used to it. I am getting there on the 14, it's a lot heavier bike. Again, a bike is only as fast as you make it. I wouldn't have wanted to learn on a 14 (couldn't have, it wasn't in production yet) because of it's size, same reason I suggested not learning on a Busa. She could, but being so much heavier it's going to make you feel less confident. For me, most of my confidence while learning came from being able to touch the ground. If I had a picture of the bike I learned to ride on, you would see that I wasn't concerned about looks. It was an old carburated F3 with no plastics (the plastics I had were shot) and a scratched tank.

It's all who ya are... See 1st ur use to seeing PG on a 600 so its a smaller frame bike. Me I grew up on bigger cruiser bikes that weigh a ton, so I know I can throw a heavier bike around like a ragdoll and still be comfortable on it... It was really me seeing myself on a smaller frame bike, that I am not use too. I might look like a GOD on a smaller frame bike.. Not many here would probley agree with that..:aBigROLFMAO: But as far as learning on it for ur 1st bike I wouldn't do it, and if I did BE REAL CAREFUL PLEASE... My 1st and only small frame bike was a honda 550.. SSSSSHHHHHH don't tell anyone:yahoo:.. But it's personal prefernce I guess... Feel Froggy, then I say jump... But Jump carefully PLEASE...:tease:
