Can you imagine humanely euthanizing your $200,000 race bike after falling out on the track?
I was watching the Kentucky Derby yesterday. My pick was Eight Belles. She placed 3rd, broke both front ankles fell out on the track, the vet's said due to the painful injury she was euthanized on the spot. My brain automatically went to racecars and race bikes.
Horable tradgedy for the horseracing world. She was a beautiful big black mare. She had the potential to throw some nice race horse babies.
RIP 8 Belles.
I would flop like a fish btw.

Unfortunetly yep it's part of the game.. And it is better for the horse..... I would not wanna see a horse suffer with 2 broken ankles.. I put one down that had one broken one... Still sad to this day, but I promise it had to be done...:klnx:

I saw that on the news last night...so sad. Bikes can be repaired, horses can't (unfortunately).

It's was sad, I liked that mare. But she was a race horse and she was insured too.
I had to put down my championship barrel horse. He won me a lot of $ and trophies for me. I was not present during this event.:(

I use to work at a dog track and I can't stomach any of the animal sports. I don't even watch the rodeo and I use to go to the Houston Livestock Show n Rodeo every year!
It is more humane to put the animal down after that type of an injury though, the bad thing is using them for our entertainment in the first place.

All of the animals I've ever had have been like family to me! While they were entertaining to me, I'd never ever be able to profit from them in any way. They are just too precious to exploit!

greyhound racing and horse racing are completely different. Horses are pampered, dogs are not. Hell, come to my neck of the woods, and you'll see plenty of horses that live way better than I do. It's nuts the amount of money people spend around here on them.
That said, it was really sad to see 8 belles this year. She ran a great race.

My last day was a race when dog collapsed on the track...she was overheated and started running the wrong direction...she started foaming at the mounth and fell down. It made me ill...and then to boot...when asked how she was the owner said don't worry about it...I've taken care of the problem...wtf is that. There was no explaination nothing...grrr

I cringe when I see this thread come up...like I said before animals should not be used and abused just for our entertainment...they have hearts that beat just like ours and feelings too...though you may not be able to see them as well...you must look deeper people...protect our animals from cruelty and people like Michael Vick...that son of a beotch! I wanna string him up by his nads...perfect example of an ignorant rich mother f*cker that thinks because he is who he is, he can do anything he wants....jerk off.
Sorry for the rant...I can't stand mean people.

That's so sad! It's best for the horse, but still breaks my heart.
