Motorcyclist Wrecks, Dies

Posted: April 26, 2008 04:04 PM EDT

A man is dead after he fled from police and wrecked his motorcycle on the inner loop of New Circle Road near Versailles Road, early Saturday morning.

Just before 2:30 Saturday morning, a Lexington police officer attempted to stop a motorcycle driving on the inner loop of New Circle near Harrodsburg Road for speeding. According to a press release from police, the motorcyclist refused to stop and accelerated away from the officer. Due to the speed, the officer turned off his emergency equipment and discontinued his attempt to stop the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, however, continued to drive at a high rate of speed and exited New Circle on the ramp to East (inbound) Versailles Rd. The motorcyclist lost control on the ramp, and left the right side of the roadway, striking the guardrail. The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner. The name of the motorcyclist is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Coroner's office.

Here is his obituary

That is so sad. I truly hope we all learn something from this. I feel for his family and especially his daughters. Regardless of how it happened, wheter he was right or wrong, his family and his children need our support. My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to them...

Robert, was he a friend of yours? If so, my condolences.:rip:
