This guy definately has his own ideas about who to wave at..this is humorous...don't be hatin....
To Wave or Not to Wave
By Shalom Auslander
I love motorcycles, and I love riding. Like many of you what first drew me to bikes was not just the experience of riding, but the feeling that I'd become part of a special community - a brotherhood, really. Nothing calms me more than a long ride down the interstate, waving to the members of my beloved clan. Except when I pass Harley guys. I hate Harley guys. Hate, hate, hate. When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don't wave. With their little tassel handlebars and the studded luggage and the half helmets - God, they drive me crazy.
You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, do I hate those guys. I don't wave at them either. They think they're so great, sitting all upright, with their 180 degree German engines. God, I hate them. They're almost as bad as those old bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call those bikes? "Two wheeled couches!" Get it? Because they're so big. They drive around like they have got all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else, Grandpa, and while your at it, I'm not waving to you.
Ducati guys - I don't wave at them either. Why they don't spend a little more money on their bikes? "You can have it in any color as long as it is red." Aren't you cool! Like they even know what a Desmo-whatever engine is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! I never, ever wave at those guys.
Suzuki guys aren't much better, which is why I never wave at them, either. They always have those stupid helmets sitting on the top of their stupid heads, and God forbid they should ever wear any safety gear. They make me so mad. Sometimes they'll speed by and look over
at me and you know what I do? I don't wave I just keep going. Please, don't get me started on Kawasaki guys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my ass. I never wave at Kawasaki guys.
I ride a Honda, and I'll only wave at Honda guys, but even then, I'll never wave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah like you're going to get your knee down on the New York Thruway. Nice crotch, by the way. Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from
me, and by the way, neither will the guys in two piece leathers. And I'll tell you who else I'm not waving at - those guys with the helmets with loud paint jobs. Four pounds of paint on a two pound helmet - like I'm going to wave back at that! I'll also never wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers. Or racing gloves. Or hiking boots.
To me, motorcycling is like a family, a close knit brotherhood of people who ride Hondas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regular gloves and a solid color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racing gloves and regular boots (not Timberlands). And isn't that what really makes riding so special.

I usually (probably 90% of the time) wave, so long as I'm not in the middle of a shift or lane change. I do try to avoid waving at total squids, though.

As a passenger when I learned what the wave was I would do it if my rider couldnt/wouldnt. It just seems rude not to!
As soon as I feel comfortable enough in my skills I will wave everyone.

hehe
Back to waving tho, I actually find that more people on cruisers wave than on sportbikes when in the mtns. If they are riding alone that is and not in a group...unless the sportbikes are in a large group then you see several in the group wave. Weird

Thank you..I love my bike...
I wave like I'm a f*ckin prom queen, gracefully. I'll then follow up with the "omg i can't believe i won!" hands to the chest gesture when i receive a wave back. And while i'm overwhelmed by the love of acknowledgement, i fail to notice that traffic has stopped, and like a beautiful swan i fly over the tops of cars, gliding through the air as if God himself gave his finest creation the gift of wings. And when I land, I curtsee to all that have witnessed my glorified flight and beckon my ride to come to me, because my Betty has a spirit all her own.
It is a tiring process, to do this all the time, so I only grace those that are worthy of my truly awesome gift. Otherwise, some would say "SHE'S A WITCH, BURN HER!!!!"

Funny story
I wave at everything but scooters...which I see most often. I will nod if I do not want to/can't wave. :superman:
It is funny because if I am on my bike or in the hubby's vette I also try to wave at other bikes or vettes (accordingly)...but when I am in my Civic it is hard not to wave at bikes and vettes...by maybe that is just me.

Well u missed the whole point of being a biker. Like u said its a community its a family. Well it doesnt matter what u ride ur still in the same boat ur on two wheels. Riding is riding u do it for a reason n thats cuz u like it which puts us in a different position that those that dont ride.

I wave to just about everyone...(even those Squids on Scooters, even that chick with the classic scooter & side car, that never waves back) 1 finger or 2... a head nod if I'm shifting... Shut I've even tossed up 3 fingers to the trikes. I just see it a way of showing respect... to other riders... Plus I thought it was in the Rule Book:rulez:

I wave at everyone. And its like some other people said on here, if I'm in a turn or clutching I'll do the head nod. Harley riders are 50/50 as far as waving back but the custom chopper guys are the worst, not only will they not wave but they'll even scoff at you if you roll up on them.
So naturally I make it a point to share a lane with them any time I get the chance, red lights are my favorite. :-)
The article posted in the beginning of this thread reminds me of something I once witnessed here that absolutely cracked me up. I was out running some errands during a hot summer day (about 108 degrees outside) when I came up to an intersection. As I waited patiently for my turn to go, I saw a guy in cross traffic riding a little Vespa scooter in a full suit of racing leathers, gloves and all.
Now I'm all for wearing protective gear, but I think he took it a little far. At least buy some summer gear! He had to have been burning up in that suit. Not to mention he wasn't even going fast enough to get any substantial airflow. Either way I have to give him props for his dedication. Anyone on two wheels is out there holding their own against the heathens in the 4-wheeled death machines so I usually extend my respect regardless. I've even been known to wave at cyclists.

I wave as long as my hands aren't busy clutching or in a turn. If i'm in a turn i ignore it and concentrate on the corner...if i'm just clutching i'll give em a nod to let em know that I saw them and to say 'SUP. :)

I wave to anyone who waves to me, but I only initiate the wave every so often. I will wave in a corner, unless I'm riding at 7/10th or above.
One of my instructors at the track taught me that I can actually take my left hand off the bar entirely and only need the lightest touch to maintain the throttle in a curve, once the bike has settled into it, so I love do that just b/c I can - on the track, that is. The street is too unpredictable to do that very often. But a quick wave is usually no big deal.

What a dick! I've never had any other motorcyclist get aggressive just b/c I was being friendly. The most they might do is ignore me, or give me a "yeah, yeah, whatever, piss off" signal, but never turn around and come hunt me down.
