As some of you may remember I bought a used D&D Carbon Fiber canister while I was doing my custom shorty D&D alum can. Well it looked like it had be thru hell and back. I am in the process now of redoing it.
Heres a pic of how the CF look when I got it.

And heres a pic of it almost all sanded and ready to re-clearcoat.

Looks good PG!
You did use high temp clear right? Usually the CF isnt covered in clear from what I understand. The epoxy is just polished since its essentially the same as clearcoat.

Your right about the resin. This a older can, so it didnt have the UV protectant and the quality of todays CF. The clear is rated up to 200º, it was the highest I could find in clear.

haha, yours is slipon, yeah?
all my friends with bolton pipes when they've refinished them/shortied and put em back together, they've rivetted the exit pipe pointing upwards/sideways, and then they've been too lazy to redrill and do it again.
atleast with a round slipon you can spin it round.

its a D&D full system.the mid-pipe is different for a slipon.

Should be ok :dntknw: I know my CF pipe on the SV never gets so warm that you can't grab it.

Yea, that what I figured too, since I usually can grab the alum one right after I shut it off.

Looks great man... nice work.
As for the temp... the exhaust gases escaping the pipe have cooled slightly while traveling through the exhaust system. Its still extremely hot, which is why id love to watch you actually grab the pipe itself. The reason most cans are manufactured out of aluminum or CF (atleast the good cans) is that it dissapates (my spelling sucks atm) the heat from the exhaust. The size of the can as as well as the material helps that heat loss while lessening sound levels and doing a slight bit of back pressure for the motor.

wheres the fun in that? i get a sick sense of pleasure when kids walk past my bike and go 'HEY SHINEY THING!' and grab my SS exhaust after a decent ride

The endcaps still get hot, but the main pipe isn't.
Nice so me and my rare passanger don't get burned.
