Just ordered a set of Michelin Pilot Powers.. loved my last set.. put Pilot Race on (older version M2s) and don't like them.. so I am going back to what I know works.. looking forward to breaking them in at Grattan on March 29 and then taking them to the Dragon.. I really was tentative riding the Dragon last year on tires I didn't trust..

I looked around and best price I saw was www.parts411.com - $247 for the set..

not that I'd ever buy Pilot Races (way more tire than I need) but what didn't you like about them?

it was the M2s and they were mighty greasy.. almost low sided a few times.. usually around lap 8.. they heated up quick but i never trusted them and i am sure you can relate if you can't trust your tires you can't ride comfortably..

I am now hearing that the Continental Sport Attacks and Street Attacks are good tires.

I know. I am a big fan of PPs but I hear the Continentals are just as good and cheaper. Waiting to hear the verdict back on mileage/wear.

my only complaint thus far about the PP's is mileage. I got somewhere around 4k on mine and they're at the wear bars in the center :(

Price n grip I have not one complaint about. Like to hear some personal feedback about the Pilot Road 2CTs. Now those cost alot  so I would would def want my moneys worth out of em. But the traction of the PP's is hard to beat IMO.

Here is what I know:

If you want a good street tire that last like 8-10k then go with the Battleax. If you don't ride real aggressive they are good touring tires. Just don't try to drag a knee or corner hard on them.

Dunlops are great if you are Rossi - they last 1-2k miles but have great grip brand new - great if you are a factory racer bad if you are a poor white boy like me.

DOT Race Tires are the same as Dunlops maybe a little worse - they are made for 1 - yes 1 - heat cycle and then they are done. Don't waste your time or money even for cheap takeoffs.

My Pilot Powers last me 10 track days and about 4-5k miles. So that works for me.

That is why I want to hear what the report is on the Contis. The guy who bought them just turned 3,900 miles in like 2 months so feedback will be coming soon.

All I know though is of utmost importance to me is confidence in my tires - especially on the track. So Michelin PP are my tire of choice as I know they are tried and true for me. But if I can get as good or better tire for cheaper I would do so because per my reference above I am a poor white boy.

Since you guys are already talking about tires I don't want to start a whole new thread, so how low should the tread be before I buy new tires?

most makes have wear bars. When the tires get down to those ya have roughly 1k or less left. Some even replace when they reach the wear bars. :drinks:

shit i never even get to the wear bars.. but usually most people i know that ride mostly street replace at or just after you reach the wear bars.. i replace mine after 6-8 track days and 2-3,000 street miles.. i usually can tell when they have had too many heat cycles and are starting to fade.. man i did some serious damage to the tires at VIR.. track days down south eat up tires big time.. i think 1 track day there is worth 3 up here.. I thought maybe I had some delamination on the front tire but i think it is ok.. I rode to Toledo last Friday and the tire had melted so much that it has bumps.. i think it will be ok as they will wear back down and the next track day should scrub the rest off but over the course of 13 track days i have never seen a tire get eaten up so bad after 2 days..

here is what wear bars look like. And to think these were just put on at the end of January. :(

I really REALLY need a new PP b4 the rally but no $$ for it. Edges still have plenty of meat on em tho.

Just my .02

I really like the Pirelli Diablo Stradas. I've got a set on my bike now and they've got around 12,000 miles on them. They are just now at the point that I'm looking for prices on a new set. As for mileage, they are awesome obviously. I rode Deal's Gap on Sat and, while I didn't ride extemely hard, I pushed and they never let loose on me once. I've ridden as hard as I'm comfortable with on the streets and never once have I doubted this tire. For me, until I start doing track there is no other choice for a street tire.
