Who makes the best sportbike?

Hands down..Yamakawizuki

I'm biased so I say Yami...All bikes have things about them that makes them better than the competitors.

For the looks, handling and power the R1 '02-'03 are superior...however the '04-'07 have been toned down, which I don't really approve of at all. It defeats the purpose of owning a litre bike.

I voted Suzuki just bc they make the Hayabusa which is a great all around bike. Yes I know Kawi makes the zx-14 which is equally as good but I dont like Ninjas bc their swingarms arent well suited for the track...Dont know how well Busas do on track but yeah...

But to be honest neither are the best made :)
The best made isnt even on the list.
The MV Agusta F4 comes STOCK with all the upgrades most people usually do to their bikes. and a single sided swingarm just SCREAMS hawt sexyness

Hondas hands down :)

and busa's aint made for the track at all

The Agusta F4 is an amazing machine, but well out of my price range. I had a hard time justifying the purchase of my R1...I had to sell my first born, cut off my boyfriends left nut and the tip of my left pinky finger just to get my bike. :) I can't imagine what it would require to get a bike like that.

All bikes have great qualities. Im a Yami man myself. I like the looks and style of them. I have an afinity for a thin tank. The other brand id buy would be a Kawi. The 05 ZX-10 was amazing...!

08-20-2007, 03:29 PM
ha yeah I didnt think the busa would do too well...too big.
got a friend that has an MV Agusta F4..I asked him how much he gave me this dead look and said "you dont wanna know" Yeahhh thats a dream bike if there ever was one LOL but by the time I am experienced enough and have money enough to buy it, I will have a new dream bike LOL

I think KC's is red. I heard nothing but good about them..Expensive tho!

08-20-2007, 04:06 PM
I personally go with Honda... just because I've always bled red... but, when it comes down to it, the major motorcycle manufacturers make tremendous machines, and as long as you're on two wheels, you're ok with me :D (did that sound PC enough????)

I was impressed by the 1000RR. It was plenty peppy. Well balanced..Im not real sure about that elec damper.I like making my own decisions. Now if they would fix that fering on the 600RR we could have a short convo. I think while they all become more Moto GP inspired we will have wacky designs.
I have an 06 R6 and it looks like a Honda from the front. I dont really care for that but i love my slipper clutch. Im not fond of undertail exhausts. So that lil shorty of the R6 is good for me. Its a lil different.

o2lily

See what sucks....is every bike has their high points over some of the other builders but nothing too extravigant to make it outshine the rest (at least in my eyes) and they each are made for a specific riding style. I dont know if you CAN make a bike thats great all around (track, drags & street).

But each has their definate perks in some areas and big downers in others.

Honestly I dont care I just like bikes **drool**

Kind of a loaded question really. The best sportbike for you could be the worst for some one else. It's about how it fits you. As far as best over all power, abilities and quality for a bike regardless of how it fits you I would have to say the new ZX14 I do believe it rated the leader of the pack now with the Busa coming in second. That is stock off the showroom floor on the race track.

Yamaha and Suzuki

the only two bikes that I ever fit comfortably on are my current '06 GSXR 600, and my SO's 2003 R1.

Before I bought the GSXR, I sat on honda (to fat in the midsection and tank), kawasaki (a bit too tall and felt awkward on it), R6 (too wide in between the thighs and a tad bit too high), Suzuki was purrrrrrrrfection.

If i would not have been a spontaneous shopper, then we would have just bought me another 03 R1 instead of the GSXR, but I rode into Fay Meyers with a 98 FZR 600 and rode out on the GSXR. Like I said, i fit the same on both of them, though there is that power difference in the liter bike that i wasn't quite ready for, hehe.

Suzuki, read the magazines, go to the races, hang out at the track, talk to your friends or just look at the poll results here ... it is Suzuki !

That is why I ride a 2006 Suzuki GSXR 600cc- throw on a Two Brothers GP slip on exhaust pipe for 5 more rpm's and a rumble that will put a chopper to shame and guaranteed to get you a few tickets like me - but worth it, cars always hear you coming !

Remember Susuki feels that they have something to prove. So they do alot of R&D on their bikes. If your looking the R6 is the leading bike for every class that there is. So while all of them have alot to offer i will always depend on 2 things. What fits. And who wants what.

Like sico said its all n what fits your. As for the bikes they all have their pros n cons n who is picked big dawg in the mags n such varies on to many things to be accurate. Its all in personal preference. Side I aint heard no one brag how their zuk has over a 100k on n is still running strong.

ive been riding for about 25 years now. i have ridden pretty much everything. my choice for best sportbike would have to be the aprilia rsv mille. tons of power and top end speed. lots of torque and it rides smooth as glass at 175 mph. ive owned this bike for almost 5 years and have only put 2000 miles on it. i have to split my ride time between all four of the bikes. besides this thing almost gives me a heart attack every time i ride it! lol i aint as young as i wanna be anymore! seems i cant keep the front wheel down on this one either. i also wanted something that everyone else doesnt have. i go to laconia, killington, and the race track for the nascar races and rarely see another one. best spotrbike of all time-any make driven by a hot chick wearing a thong!!!

The man has a good point. So does everyone else, lol. It really does boil down in large part to what works for you as an individual. Me ... I gotta give props to Kawi. Never mind that I've been on em for years. Kawi has had an up and down relationship with the ninja's, but there has been more than once that they have been leader of the pack over the years. The 750 had a long long run as one of the most reliable, streetable bikes in the market, and did well on the track back in the day also. The ZX1100 was the bike to beat for a long time. Back when i was in highschool it was the ZX9R. Even though the 9 is a fat cow by todays standards, in 26,000 miles mine has never missed a beat or made a complaint. And still can hang with todays liters for the most part. For everyday riding, she might be fat and heavy, but she's still tops with me. And then there are the little ninja's ... the 250 and 500. Even today two of the most popular and reliable beginner/learner bikes on the market. Course ... thats all just my lil opinion, lol.

Dont know how well Busas do on track but yeah...

They can hold their own, but they're not designed specifically for it. As mentioned in the thread, every bike has it's pros and cons. I really miss my 04 R1 for track use, but since I haven't been to the track lately my Busa is much better suited to my street riding.

Really any more than 750CCs are too big for road racing. That's why you see all the 1000s, Busas and 14s at the drag strip. I agree, they all make great bikes, let me correct myself... All of the Japanese bikes are great as well as the European bikes, but Buell should not even be considered a sportbike, it's just kinda there in the middle. I wouldn't ride a Suzuki because there are way too many of them. That's why I have had everything else. I'm sticking with my 14 now!!

It depends on the Buell. I know a guy who helped design some elements of the new 1125R, and he said they're apparently taking the sport bike thing more seriously than ever nowadays.
http://www.2wf.com/content/view/750/28/

As far as engine size, it's really depends on the bike. My 04 R1 is about the same weight as the R6, and handled just as good - but with the added benefit of torque the R6 can't match. I think the GSXR750 is the perfect trackday bike and I'll probably end up with another one if my schedule allows me to do that anytime in the near future.

But the current literbikes are so well mannered there's really no reason not to take them to a roadcourse unless you just don't think you can handle that much power. I don't think that's usually an issue, right?

I haven't ridden one of the newer Gixxers so I can't comment on the different settings. but the whole idea kinda reminds me of the "valet key" that came out with the ZR1 Corvette back in the 90's. Supposedly it prevented high rpm and wouldn't allow the car to do a burnout or something.

To me it's just a gadget - I mean, if you're riding a GSXR 1000, you should know how to handle everything it can dish out. They're not THAT hard to ride slow - why install a switch to do something you can do yourself just by easing back on the throttle a bit or shifting up a gear?

the settings are for all these squids n first tyme riders that thing they can skip learning how to ride n just hop on the top of the line race ready bike and killing their fool selves. Will it work? I doubt there is no crue for human stoopidity.

If they're that dumb to think they should buy a 1000 in the first place, they're definitely too dumb to put the switch in the proper position for their abilities - so they probably deserve the inevitable wreck they're going to cause anyway.

You know it was a big question (what size bike to get) my husband and I went back and forth with when we decided to buy our bikes two years ago...I had ridden mostly on a little 80cc dirt bike and then on the back of my dads cruisers but it had been a while, and hubby had a 250 shadow when in the Army but that had been over 15 years ago. So, when we went out looking at bikes we sized everything up from a 250 to the liter bikes. I decided to go with the SV650s and he went with the R1. A lot of people critizided him for buying it saying its too much for a first time serious rider...and w/ me the SV had way too much torque and that I should start out smaller. Damn am I glad we didn't listen to them.....I've actually looked at getting the gsxr only for the fact that I would personally like to have that option to "grow" within the bike...maybe I just have a better head on my shoulders than others and would actually think about it. I dont know. I love my SV and Im learning new things about it and my riding everytime Im out there...but I now know had I started on the 250 I looked at originally I would of personally "out grown it" and would have wanted to upgrade to atleast what I have now w/in six months to a year! But I'll tell ya....we've gone to the mountains now twice and each time I fall more in love with the curves and Im riding the hell out of the corners...the only thing that pissed me off this past year is I would kill my friend on her gsxr 600 in the curves but you get us on the straight away and she was gone....damn if that didn't piss me off and made me start looking at other bike options cause I cant stand to be beaten!

Just my .02 on it

and did I mention the fact that I LOVE MY SV! :)

A n00b has no bussiness on a sportbike. Ok maybe a 250 but definately not a 600 n up.

It all can depend on the rider. Also for some it has to do with where you plan to ride. I know, I know twisties are the fun of it. But here in my area it's straight flat roads for the most part. I learned on a 600 with no problems.

Yea its all depentant on the individual, but as a basic rule I wouldnt recommend that route to a n00b. If a person is mature n has self control they can learn on anything. But as we all know most dont so lol.:big_boss:

I agree completely!!!! Due to certain circumstances beyond my control, I ended up starting on my 750, but I was NOT happy about it. I'm still getting comfortable with something that big.

I do love my bike though. I don't know enough people with bikes yet to really have an opinion on others, but I fell in love with my VFR the minute I saw it, and had to have it. :in_love:

not to offend anyone first of all!!! cause i love this place and i dont want to hurt any feelings or piss anyone off!! but i started on my gsxr 600. chris told me if i wanted to ride i either go big or go home. if i was going to learn i had to be for real! but i had spent alot of time with him on it and working on it so i knew that bike in and out before i touched it. the only thing i had problems with is i didnt have mirrors.....ive only dropped once aand that was bc it was pouring down rain and i was trying to pull it up a hilly gravel driveway. and i didnt realize my kickstand wasnt fully down.

other than that i love the suzuki....i know everyone roots yami but i love my suzu.

there arent a whole lot of them around so people dont think about them when they talk sportbikes. i'm 41 so i probably dont ride it to its full potential and i rarely rode it after i bought it. purchased in 02 with 9044 miles now has 11130. almost sold it this summer, but then i rode it and just couldnt let it go. i also have three other bike besides this and i try to ride each one a little on and off. we've got a pretty short season in vt so splitting it between 4 rides keeps the milage low on all of them.

So here's another can of worms everyone can help me with if ya like..

Ducati's would be killing the in the WSB if Stoner hadnt fallen off.

I like aprilia's RSV4 too but it hasnt proven anything yet.
Aprilia doesnt even have a factory team does it?
just riders using their cool stuff...
and only the 125/250 at that.

atleast Ducati put their money on the line...

MV's rock too and they might actually sell a few if they raced 'em...
Race'em on sunday - sell 'em on Monday...

I would look at the past experience of the person giving the "best sportbike" award. You have lots of folks that have only driven their one brand for years, maybe they have a great relationship with the dealer, or no other brands nearby. I know you love your bike, but if you have not ridden at least the main 4 jap brands (and none more than 3 years old), you don't really know if your bike is that good. Look at all the harley riders...ok I couldn't help it.:fukeneh:

it would also depend on what class and what year and what type of riding, but in this poll i think its just personal opinion or what looks good.
