I am having one hell of a time finding boots to fit my needs, and I'm beginning to wonder if they even exist out there???

Here's what I'm looking for:
*Office appropriate and comfortable - will look ok with dress pants so I don't have to carry a second pair of shoes every day.
*Minimum 2" overall height added (for obvious reasons) by way of heel, thick sole, or combination of the two.
*Wide widths and tall toe box - I have to wear orthotics, and by the time I get them into the boot, there's not a lot of room left height-wise in the toe box of a lot of shoes for my toes.

The Icon Bombshells seemed the closest, but they look like my same old orthotic problem with the toe, and from what I can tell, they haven't reviewed well for actual riders. Does anyone know of ANY other options I may have?????

i doubt very much you'll find any boot that will look good with professional attire. you may hafta scrap that idea. hell, i can't even find a decent pair of casual boots period and my standards are lower than yours. i just want something that covers the ankle (mid-height) that isn't a harley-looking boot. i don't want a full-on race boot, but i don't want a cruiser boot either. they make them in mens' sizes, but all women are offered are cruiser style boots.

i might hafta spring for the sidi jasmine tepors outta desperation. i'd like a few more options though.

good luck with your search!

Your best bet my be go with a mens boot. That;s what I had to do. They aren't real dressy looking but they do the trick. As far as the width and toe box height. I have wide feet and womens riding boots tend to run kind of narrow. Hell I have to wear men's tennis shoes because I can never find any womens in my size and if I do they are too narrow.

Thanks for the input! I'll keep lookin around for a few more weeks, and if I come up with anything, I'll let you guys know! :) Otherwise, I guess I'll settle for just a riding boot, and strapping the heels to the passenger seat again... ;)

I can tell you not to get the Oxtar TCS Evo. I just got a pair and these are narrow boots with a very tight fit on narrow feet. They are comfortable boots but I don't think you would be able to fit the orthotics in there.

Duly noted! :) Any others out there that anyone knows run particularly narrow? (or wide, other than men's)

OK, so maybe this is a stupid question (maybe not?) - can these type of heels actually be used for riding, or is it a strictly passenger boot? My work pants would cover the "biker" looking parts of these two:

Ok the first one I don't think would work for riding but they would be swell for tramping all over my heart.

Well I need boots with at least a 2 inch heel.

Now the Harley boots have a nice heel on them. I just dunno how they would be.

I have the Icon Bombshell boots in black. I wore them with dress pants for the Dealer Expo this weekend and they looked great. I actually just took mine in today to a shoe repair place to have some rubber soles put on the heel of them, that is the only potential problem I foresee because the heel is sorta slick and I have NO problem riding in them. There's a slightly higher area in between the the ball of your foot area and the heel, but nothing that has caused a problem for me. I also wear them when I drag race. Here's of pic of me racing with them on...

3 questions - how are those on the toe clearance and width? (such as for someone like me with a wide metatarsal arch at the base of the toes) Can you remove the factory insoles without damaging the boot itself? (so I can get my orthodic in without crowding my toes) How do they seem to be holding up on the left toe with shifting? (I read a review somewhere that the leather isn't very good for a rider as opposed to a passenger boot.)

Well, shoot, I can't look at the inside since I dropped the boots off, but I think you should be able to pull up the original insole and put in your own. Of course they are 'worn,' but they should look it since I wore them all last season. I don't see any problem with them holding up for me. I don't know if any of the bike shops in your area have them so you can't take a look at the inside, but you might do that and then buy them online, most likely a lot cheaper.

Yeah, I was thinking about picking them up online. When you get yours back, could you check on the insole question? Sometimes, the bottom of the boot is actually attached to the insoles in some shoes in a way that they won't come out... If they will, though, there's a pretty good chance I could wear them.

Also, how are they width-wise?

ZX14Chick
02-19-2008, 07:22 PM
I will definitely check on the insole for you. I can pick them up on Saturday... I don't think they're super-wide. I typically wear a normal width.

Is there a Cycle Gear near you? The ones near me stock a pretty good selection of women's boots. You coudl go there and try on some different styles and brands. I think I saw the Bombshell boots there once as well.

You don't necessarily have to buy there, but at least you can try them on and see what fits best.

Nope. There's not much around here by way of stores that sell gear. The local sportbike shops have a few jackets and helmets, and then there's the Harley store. I figure I'll go wander around that one this Saturday and see what they have, but like I said, I'm trying to stay away from the "hard-core biker" look that most Harley gear is.

Yeah, if you go to the Harley shop I don't expect you to find much other than 'hard core,' but I could be wrong, it's happened once or twice. :search:
Good luck in your search! Are you close enough to Chicago to try driving up there or somewhere just over the state line in MI? I can't remember exactly where Crown Point is, but I know I've been there before.

Well, a trip to Chicago would automatically add $20 in gas, $20 in tolls, and $40 in parking to the price of whatever I find, not to mention the higher sales tax across the state line, and that's if I even had any idea where to go in the first place. (Can you tell I severely dislike going to the city for much of anything???) Michigan's not so far, but once again, where to go? If it's outside about a 20 mile radius from where I live, I'm lost..... :)

Gah! I didn't really think about how expensive it is when I suggested Chicago. I guess you should just move closer to Indianapolis! Then it wouldn't be so expensive to check out gear and you could ride with me Ninjachic, and Ravenman! :yes2: Other than that great idea, I'm kinda spent on that for now. Sorry!! Oh yeah, got the boots back this morning and they look fantastic! I wore them to the motorcycle expo today. Here are some pics for you to see. The cat thought you wanted to see him... :)

We'll see - If I can see them at the local shop before buying, or if I can't find anything at the Harley shop, I may go for em anyway. I should have time to go boot shopping next time the kids are on visitation (in 2 weekends). :)

Saki,
I haven't messed with it really, but have you tried adjusting the sides? I work out and usually have a hard time with my calves, too, but these are just fine. If you are out and see them, you may try the buckles on the sides, I think they actually move and aren't 'just for looks.'

AJ,
Why did your BF hate them so much?? I love 'em! My husband bought them for me 2 Christmases ago when they first came into the shop because he knew I would be in love with them. He was right! Tell your BF he doesn't have to wear them! I know what you mean though, my husband is very opinionated and skews my ideas quite a bit, too.

He's just opinionated, too.... But while I take his opinions into consideration, I still make my own decisions - like you said, I have to wear them, not him! That's why I plan to exhaust my other option (the one I seem to have) of lookin at the Harley line first, and if I don't find anything there, I'll go ahead and try the Icon's anyway.

I had those. They tend to be a bit bulky in the front, however guess that is just my personal preference also. I don't like big and bulky. I actually have a regular pair of boots that have a heel that I wear and have no problems with, however I don't think most would go for it. The heal is a bit narrow.

Ok, I haven't waded through all the responses yet so if I duplicate somebody's idea, I apologize....I just saw this post now....

I was looking for the same thing and believe it or not, you'll never guess what I found that works really, really well..(with the exception of dresses or skirts) but, my solution was Cowboy boots....I was able to find a great pair of black ones for under $100. I got them a half size big (so that I can put my insoles), I also got them a bit wider than I normally buy...I got a riding heal, so the heal is almost 2 inches, The boot goes above my calf so I am protected in case I spill and I made sure to get the pil resistant sole instead of the smooth sole to help me when i am riding in the rain.

They look really nice with jeans and pants.....But, then again, I live in West Texas, Home of Tony Lama and Luchese so every one around here is in boots!!!

Well, I have the Icon's on order at the local shop - should be in by Saturday. I'll see if those might possibly work, but I don't have my hopes up too high yet. I've also been in and out of the harley shop - the girls there have been pretty helpful, but I think if the Icons don't work, I'm gonna end up stashing shoes in my desk at work and giving up on the multi-purpose boot. I'd consider the cowboy boots, except that I don't have a matching hat.... But really, I've heard that cowboy boots can be a bit slick on the bottom for riding?? Maybe there's more options than I'm aware of??

If you get the wrong sole, they can be. I only have one pair that has a smooth sole for when I go sh!t kicking. The others either have a vibram sole or an oil resistant sole!!!

I bought the Icon Bombshells and I was so excited until I got them and actually tried them on...they are SO narrow in the foot and calf no matter what size I got...they seem to be made for women with really tiny calves...I purchased the Alpinestars SMX-4 Stella's for myself, but they're race boots and not really office appropriate...I still carry my heels in my backpack with me...I'm on the hunt too, I will let you know if I find anything...you're right, the Bombshells were the perfect ones, but don't fit well at all unless you're tiny. Just got the call that they came in yesterday, but the shop closes before I get out of work on weekdays. I'll be heading up there tomorrow morning to find out... *fingers crossed* I did order a half to full size larger than I usually wear in shoes (wear between a 7 1/2 and 8 depending on the shoe, ordered an 8 1/2 in the boot) since I've heard a lot of comments about them running small. Looking at the Bombshell boots now too. I'm most likely going to be getting the GoGo Bomshell jacket and pants in black and will now need black boots to go with it as my current Icon boots will not go with the black. I have the wheat colored ones. They are great for riding and I can get away with them when I wear jeans or khaki's to work, but for dress pants I usually have to pack my black high-heeled boots in my tank bag.

It seems I have success on the boots! Thanks for the info about the insoles, Ally. I had to go up a full size from my normal, and tear out the insoles to fit my foot and orthodic comfortably, but so far so good! Haven't tried riding with them yet - breaking in the ankles now so they flex good. I do wish they had room for a little more padding in the bottom, but that's my usual issue with all shoes, not a prob with the boots. They look great with my dress pants for work today, though! :)

I'm just sticking my 2cents in.. i got the Icon Standard ladies boot.. in size 9. my feet are an 8.5 sneaker, but dress shoes i take a 9 since my instep is pretty wide.

These boots are seriously tight.. but, once i broke them in, i got my orthotics in them and i kinda like em now. Plus.. they have steel ankle and toe supports and are definitely heavy duty.

Walking in them really sucked at first.. but breaking them in.. well, they look like a shit kicker boot. I just change when i get to work.

thought i'd put it out there for anyone looking for a boot with a heal and at least an inch in height all around. i love them for the price i paid $50

Good luck on the bombshells, I bought them and had to send them back because they were very narrow in the foot and calf. I thought they were hot! I was so sad to have to send them back...

Thanks for the input! I'll keep lookin around for a few more weeks, and if I come up with anything, I'll let you guys know! :) Otherwise, I guess I'll settle for just a riding boot, and strapping the heels to the passenger seat again... ;)

Ok...stupid thought, but I use to do it when I worked in an office in Boston...leave a few pairs in your drawer in the office to change into...

Im not worried about looks as much as the height those give.

You need to double check with Harley, though - most of those kind of boots are labeled as "after-riding" I found out - it's a difference in the material they use for the sole, and the construction of the boot itself. They're not as sturdy.

I did end up getting the Bombshells, and they're working out well so far. Had to size up by a whole shoe size, so they're a bit long, but they work. They also took a little getting used to, because the heel is narrower than a lug, so it's a slightly different stance with your feet down at a stop. They also survived my run-in with the gravel lot rather well, and protected my ankle good when the bike fell on it - only a very minor bruise.

I've got the last of my gear on order, so I'll get pics in my new boots, helmet, jacket, and pants when the jacket comes in... It shoulda been yesterday, but the warehouse sent the wrong size.

I have harley boots and the left heel is collapsing. I got them on sale at Harley for $89 at Christmas time so you think they'd last a little longer!

I do stand leaning more on the left but come on!

The sad part is, most of the women's boots, even Harley doesn't claim they're designed for riding, type of bike notwithstanding.

Here's the other girl's review:

Well ladies I got the booties!

They are even MORE hideous in person - but WOW are they comfy!!!!! It feels like I am wearing a pair of lambs on my feet, they fit like a glove, totally customizable (due to the laces) then easy zip up/down! I rode them on a big ride last night (150 miles or so) and WOW - I LOVE THEM!!!

I have the hugest calves on the planet (for a girl) and this is the first pair of 5 boots that I've tried that ACTUALLY fit - and I even had a custom pair made!

Can't wear them on the track, but I have a pair of Oxtars that work for there, okay for over leathers, but a little too big for under jeans -

But anyway, concensus is VERY WAY to expensive, but definately worth it for those of us with non stick legs!

And here's a link to a better price than she paid... Clicky! (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ALPINESTARS-STELLA-ARMADA-BOOTS-08-2008-WOMENS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742Q2em153Q2el1 262QQcategoryZ6751QQihZ023QQitemZ360024399127QQtcZ photo)

That's what I thought too, until I realized that there are zippers on the inside. You set the laces where you want them and never touch them again. Use the zippers to get them on and off.

I think they would look cute. You won't be able to see the logos since they are meant to be worn under pants legs, so all anyone will see is the heel and toe.

My only concern would be how much ankle protection and support they provide. But they look to be better than fashion boots or sneakers.

I must be an abnormal female or something - I hate shoe-shopping, and keep a minimum number in my closet so that I at least have something appropriate... most of the time.... Well, I have the perfect built-in excuse not to bother with shoes.... My orthodics don't fit into most heels anyway. And they screw up my lower back, which my chiropractor informs me is as good as it'll ever get, since the ligaments are just simply shot from stretching unnatural directions for so many years. So, yeah. Maybe the fact that shoes are just not comfortable unless they're tenny's has something to do with it.

Funny you should mention Stacey and Clinton, though - I've been trying to get a couple friends over to do a "what not to wear" through my closet for me. :flirt: I'm trying people! I really am!

Problem with western boots is they may not stay on your feet in the event of a unplanned get-off. I was born in Texas and considered them normal riding gear and wore them for years. You can get ridged rubber soles and heels put on them to solve the slickness problem.

But that's not the only problem. Lee Parks and just about anyone who writes about motorcycling sez real riding boots are always your best bet, followed by anything that zips (laces can catch on things at inopportune moments) tightly enough you can't pull the boot off without unzipping.

I have wide calves, too. Alpinestar's GoreTex touring boots are wide enough on top I can fit armored Joe Rocket Blaster pant legs inside them. They have ankle and shin armor and have kept my feet dry during downpours. They're a good, solid boot that will protect your feet from being crushed or soaked.

Hi, don't know if you have solved this problem yet... I just keep a couple of pairs of shoes under my desk.

I have been wearing the Oxtar/TCX Sunray boots for a couple of years & they work well for larger calves. The strech panel works well. Waterproof (important in Seattle). Warranty service is also superb, I had a three-year old trashed pair with a broken right zipper that the distributor (Helmet House) replaced, no questions asked.

The instep is removable, width seems normal, and they look fine with work attire. I have a new-in-box pair in size 8 (EU 40) that I want to sell (bought a new pair since I didn't think that HH would replace the old ones). Send me a PM if you are interested!
