Ok so now that the Rebel is back in my garage and I have my forks coming this week. I need to start thinking about what i'm doing for winterizing. I know about the fuel stabilizer, changing the oil, making sure the tires are off the concrete. But I want to take the entire bike apart, w/ my dad's help and clean it and make sure I don't need to fix anything else.

But what I want to know is what do I do with the chain? Drewpy told me to just lube it and leave it alone. My dad thinks i should take it off, clean it and then lube it. What's better or is there something else i should do? And I guess is there anything else i've forgtten.

And i have no manual to read becasue it didn't come with one so I'm really at a loss. There's no close honda shop for me to take it to and have them do it so i'm kinda stuck. :help:

At the end of the year I clean my chain with kerosene (it won't damage the o-rings) really well. Get a bruch and begin to scrub away. After you have it all cleaned up wipe it down with a rag to get excess residue off. Then hit it with a little Honda HP-4 chain lube and your set!

Yes I do all of that, but her question was about her maintaining her chain. Not adding stabil, oil, stands, etc. re-read her post Einstien.

I've done all the other stuff. I don't usually change my oil at the end of the season, i do change it and the brake fluid at the beginning though.

Yanno, I've never thought of using kerosene. My brother actually has a friend that could take my chain and put it in a machine wash to get all the gunk off it, you think that would hurt it?

High pressure could ruin your o-rings. Kerosene will disolve all the grim away so there's no need to use high pressure to clean it off. Just lube it up afterwords and your good.

I don't winterize her other than stands and her blankie cover - the benefit of her hibernating in a temp controlled (60 deg) shop :)

That's good to know.

I don't do to much winterizing. I don't even pull the battery. I just start the bikes up every weekend. I do fill the gas tank, add stabil, and put them on stands but thats about it. That way when there's a nice day, I drop the stands and get some riding in!

if you would of asked me, i have a grunge buster brush and chain cleaner, along with chain lube....

kerosene can screw with the o-rings on a modern chain fyi (actually i am second guessing this, looking it up now, so dont quote me)

In California the way we winterize our bikes is to put on some long underwear and wear our liners in our jackets. Best winterizing there is!

All good advice, the only other thing I would ad is to put duct tape over the exhaust to keep mice from nesting in there. I put a small strip on my speedometer to remind me to remove it in the spring.
