Ok... I call myself buying a dummy bike for cheap b/c I wrecked my regular bike doing stunts. So I bought a 87/89 Kaw 600 for $300. At the time I thought it was a good deal and I had hoped to be back on the road by May. I bought the bike in March. Well I haven't been on any bike all summer and I'm bummed. But I still want to finish what I started. I tried to fix the bix myself by looking through books to help. That didn't work so I recruited some friends to help. We've finally narrowed down to why the bike isn't working, and $1000 later. I need a pin in the carborater or I just need a new one. My friend says that where the valve opens there should be a small pin there to regulate flow. So I have been searching for junk carbs where I can just replace the pin or a new one all together but without spending a fortune. Can someone help me or tell me where to go? Or better do you think I should scrap it for parts and upgrade to a earlier model? Mind you I want to use this as a practice bike to do stunts. Thanks for any help.
(I attached a pic of the bike...it's decent)

Have you checked into the cost of a carb rebuild kit?

A rebuild kit isn't a bad idea... but you may have to hit up forums across the country looking for people that can help you out... and if you can find time salvage yards with online sights... may be able to help you out... what's the cost of a new carb for your bike?

I may not have your exact make and model correct but this give you a start. Not a bad price for Dennis Kirk, you may even find it cheaper elsewhere.

jet kits come with new needle sometimes. look at dynojet.
or call them maybe they can help. I'll look to see if I can get that needle by itself.

trying to figure out what you mean by pin? are you referring to the needle jet at the bottom of the slide?

ok, what i mean is the needle and seat.(needle being that thing attached to your float) that long thing coming off the slide is called a jet needle and i'm fairly sure that's not your prb. the best thing to do in my opnion is take the whole carb rack to a shop and get a "pop off test" done that will tell u which needles and seats are bad.typically a carb dosen't wear out........just a few stupid little parts.....example.........needle.....seat......flo at. like i said....shoot me a pm and i will take the time to write u a detailed walk through of how to properly clean and inspect carburators, starting with taking the bowl off to checking/adjusting float height to putting the dam things back on....so yea, just try'n to help out
